I've just had a brainwave. Yesterday I was talking to someone I met on Twitter, but in REAL LIFE in a bar (legalese comment inserted here about preserving anonymity, yadda yadda, you know who you are, lady) about Botox and whether it's worth it - "Does it hurt?" I asked with horrified fascination - apparently the answer has a lot of f-words in it and a Yes. Also she said you can't move the top half of your face for ages and although everybody thinks you look younger, they also secretly wonder if you've had a stroke. So, although I'm not unhappy with the way I look for my age, I thought : GAFFER TAPE. You heard it here first. I'm not sure if they do something approaching flesh colour (or a range of flesh colours), but it's ideal. Can be removed at the end of the day with, surely, less pain than 27 facial injections. Aaaaaand, for the more semi-permanent Phil Spector effect, duct tape, which can then be hidden under the wig you have Superglued on.

..however I think you'll agree that a little suffering is necessary for true ageless beauty. Or you could just bite the bullet and have Botox, which I have to say anonymous Twitter lady was a great advert for. Or, if you're me, neither, just ensure all your lighting is low wattage.

The Future of Cosmetic Surgery

A couple of days ago, I came across a clip on a girl in China who is getting plastic surgery to look just like Jessica Alba:

Self-esteem and freakish ex-boyfriend issues aside, I think it’s interesting that this young woman is out to not only fix up her nose or skin, but to assume the likeness of a celebrity icon.

The segment reminds me of a WIRED “Found: Artifacts from the Future” piece that featured branded ears or noses or something- the idea was that in the future, we would be able to not only wear Tiffany’s earrings, but have perfect Tiffany’s ears. That kind of thing.

Do you think that a future of branded cosmetic surgery awaits us? Will we be able to buy whole faces or bodies that look like our favorite idols? Already we’ll buy their perfumes and clothing lines… marketed body parts doesn’t seem that outlandish, even today.

With plastic surgery both on the rise amongst men and women (between 1992 and 2005, annual us cosmetic surgery volume increased 725%) and forecasts predicting significant future growth), I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see branded and mass-marketed options in the future. Once considered taboo, plastic surgery and facial enhancements are better accepted with changing times. I am neither for or against it as I see it as a personal choice. The Difference Between a Good Google Ad and a Poor Google Ad

1. The first ad forgets that the most important part of the ad is the headline. Put your name there and you might as well leave it blank.
2. The first ad in contrast tells the prospective patient nothing about why they should choose or even consider Smith over every other plastic surgeon out there. Everyone else “offers procedures for body, breast & face.” He’s positioned him self as just like everyone body else.
3. The second ad tells people we only do face. This eliminates people they don’t want– so they’re only paying for clicks from their target customers. The general public has been taught that specialists are “better.”
4. The second ad confirmed they are in San Diego, in two different spots. This bolds “San Diego” in the ad and it makes the ad stand out from the rest. Plus it assures someone looking for a surgeon in San Diego that in fact this is in line with what they are looking for.

The only fault that I find on the second ad is the use of “Only Superior Results.” What does that really mean to a prospective patient? Not a whole lot. Every patient is expecting superior results. Some have expectations set more towards miracles then “superior.”

On your Google ad, you want to describe what a patient is after and hit on some emotion. You want to have some psychological or emotional trigger within your ad copy that grabs prospective patients by the eyeballs and pulls them to your website.
